About Lulu

Welcome to the colorful world of Lulu Buck, award-winning author and a dedicated public educator with an illustrious twenty-five year career and a profound commitment to fostering educational equity. Currently serving as the Coordinator of Educational Equity and Family Engagement for a local school district, Lulu brings a wealth of experience to her role.

Previously, Lulu held the position of English Language Development and World Language Senior Consultant at the Colorado Department of Education, where she also contributed her expertise to the Standards and Instructional Support Office. Notably, she served as a state trainer for cultural responsiveness and equity, impacting thirty-eight Colorado school districts. Lulu's teaching journey spans a decade, during which she passionately taught English and Spanish in public secondary schools.

"Sue's Sky," Lulu's debut book, recently translated into Spanish as "El Cielo de Susana," delves into the important themes of acceptance, inclusion, and friendship. Committed to making a difference, Lulu has developed a complimentary curriculum to empower educators and parents in creating safe spaces for children. Recognized with the prestigious gold seal of approval from the Mom's Choice Awards and receiving two honorable mentions from the 2022 Purple Dragonfly Awards, "Sue's Sky" has been acknowledged as a 2023 Book Excellence Award Finalist in the "Children's Inspirational/Motivational" category. "El Cielo de Susana", the Spanish Edition, recently was awarded a bronze medal in the category of "Best Illustrations for an Educational Children's Book" and also received an Honorable Mention for "Best Illustrations Overall" through the 2023 International Latino Book Awards. 

Lulu's newest book "Magical Golden Whistle" is now available. This enchanting tale of imagination, friendship, and adventure is sure to bring magic to your child's story time.

Lulu has done numerous presentations of these books at many conferences, workshops, schools, districts, parent nights, community events, and libraries. Her international debut was teaching "Sue's Sky" in partnership with the Mwebaza Foundation in 4 schools in Uganda in the summer of 2023. Lulu loved teaching her book and painting with almost 700 students in Uganda.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Lulu finds joy in family life, residing in Colorado with her two sons and their two dogs. During her precious moments of leisure, she indulges in diverse interests, including painting, playing tennis, traveling, mastering the piano, and engaging in the art of writing.
